My name is Cherry Julia Harris. I am an Osteopath with 33 years work experience. My professional philosophy in life is geared towards "finding the health" in my patients. My personal philosophy and my advice to my patients is that we each need to be active participants in "supporting the health" in our bodies. My own experience, (backed by scientific research) is that exercise helps to support both a healthy body and mind, lowers stress levels whilst reducing our predisposition to illness. When we moved to Andalusia in 2014, I was introduced to the idea of training for a triathlon. All my life I had been an avid sports fan. For me it was about getting out into the countryside and changing my head space. Running, cycling, ski-ing, walking. I hadn't had a lot of experience with swimming and quite frankly was very afraid of the idea of swimming in the sea ( like really swimming in the sea - a distance). There were no clubs local to where I lived and even the ones at distance didn't seem to offer any regular training opportunities or have any support structure (or interest) in a 57 year old novice. Together with my husband Mark and our daughter Jennifer the idea for Blue Cactus Triathlon Club was born. It is a club that has been created to serve the interests of everybody - young, old, fit, unfit, male, female etc etc.........You are never too young to start or too old!!! In October 2018, I competed in my 5th Triathlon at the age of 60, accompanying me were two 14 - 16 year old novices, a group of five 22 - 30 year old novices, one 50 - 60 year old novice and five 60 plus year old novices!!!! Everybody gained a podium place!!!!!!!! This was a group of Blue Cactus athletes from 3 different countries, with one common goal. Teamwork and regular group coaching is what helps us achieve our desired goals. I hope you will want to join our growing family.
